The Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) program in the College of Nursing and Health Sciences at Lewis University invites applications for an Assistant/Associate Professor, Speech-Language Pathology. This is a full-time, tenure track appointment. Preferred areas of expertise include adult language, cognitive communication, and swallowing disorders. However, all areas of expertise within the discipline will be considered. Speech-Language Pathology is a developing program that will matriculate its first cohort of students in the summer of 2020 on the Romeoville, IL campus. The Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology (MSSLP) degree will be conferred upon program completion. The curriculum will incorporate academic, clinical, and research experiences to ensure that students develop the knowledge and skills necessary for entry-level practice as a Speech-Language Pathologist. The faculty member who is hired will begin this appointment in August 2020 at the beginning of the 2020-21 academic year.
The successful candidate will hold an earned doctoral degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders or a related area, and be able to demonstrate a significant record of university teaching experience, clinical experience and expertise, and scholarship. In addition, must hold the Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), and must hold or be eligible for the Illinois state Speech-Language Pathology license.
The primary responsibilities of the Assistant Professor of Speech-Language Pathology shall include:
Developing and teaching didactic academic courses in the SLP curriculum, including undergraduate prerequisite and graduate courses.
Developing and executing a line of scholarly research that results in dissemination of knowledge.
Developing and managing off-site clinical practica in the community for clinical education of SLP students, scholarly projects and community outreach.
Completing service to the program, college, university and our profession.
Recording assessment data regarding student achievement at midterm and end of each semester.
Participation in departmental meetings, graduation ceremonies, and other meetings or events, as required.
Modeling the University Mission through dedicated job performance, service excellence to constituencies, and respectful collaboration.
Fostering an educational environment supportive of the Lasallian Mission.
